When should I arrive for my
reservation?
Please arrive about 10 minutes early to allow for parking, check-in, and to grab a snack or drink. If you have a reservation, don’t be late! We can’t give you any extra time, and cats are most impatient if they are kept waiting! Time slots begin on the hour.
It’s important to us that each guest enjoys his or her visit. It’s also important our cats have an enjoyable, safe experience without feeling stressed, anxious or scared. If at any time we feel that a guest is preventing either from happening, that guest will be asked to leave.
Do I have to pay to enter the Cat
Lounge?
We ask for an entry donation of $10 on Thursdays and Fridays or $12 on Saturday and Sundays.
Who is required to sign a waiver?
All guests are required to review the safety rules and sign a waiver before every visit. Parent or guardian must sign for children up to age 17. Children must be 6 years or older to enter the Cat Lounge.
Children age 6 to 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; no exceptions. We ask for one adult for every three children for the cats’ safety and well-being.
Students age 16 and 17 are not required to bring their parent/guardian. They can bring a waiver as long as it is signed by parent/guardian. Parent can also stop by to sign in-person.
Adults may sign a waiver in-person or online - click here!
What if I need to reschedule or cancel?
We ask for at least 24 hour’s notice to reschedule or cancel. Please understand that if you are a no-show or forget to cancel without enough notice, it prevents us and other visitors from using those reserved time slots, and there is no refund. You can consider it a donation for charity, which we appreciate!
Where should I park?
Sorry but we do not have a parking lot. You may park on any nearby side street (Dundee, Yale, Wibben, Harvard, Woodbourne or Blvd Napolean). Most of the area has no meters. Small lot behind Graeters and Havana Rumba. Avoid CVS lot and the lot next to Lucky Cat, which does not belong to us. We want to be good neighbors with them. Thank you.
Where do the cats come from?
We have five adoption partners: Louisville Metro Animal Services, Shamrock Foundation, Little Orphans Kitten Rescue, CatHeads Kitty Rescue, and Humane Society of Oldham County.
Can I adopt a cat from the café?
Absolutely! All cats are available for adoption. It's a good idea if you can spend at least two visits before choosing one (or two!) cats, so you can learn their personalities and make sure the cat is compatible with you and your living situation. The adoption approval process takes about 24 hours to 48 hours.
How much does it cost to adopt a cat?
The adoption fee for all cats at Lucky Cat is $150, regardless of which rescue partner. The adoption partner reviews and approves the applications. We will notify you with the good news! Once we receive approval, we will contact you to schedule a time to pick up your new furrever kitty. Owner must bring a pet carrier. Adoption fee can be cash, check, or credit card.
Can I submit my adoption form online?
Once you have visited the cat in person, you can obtain a blank application from us at the cafe. You can email completed applications if you prefer to fill out at home. Send a legible copy to luckycatcafe502@gmail.com and we can start processing it immediately.
What is a cat café?
A cat café is a unique hybrid space where visitors can have a cup of coffee or tea and sit down to pet cats...or adopt one! All cats are fixed, microchipped, licensed, and up to date on immunizations. Our adoption partners provide us with 12 to 15 cats who live 24/7 in our space until they find their purrfect homes.
Cat cafés began in Taiwan and Japan 20 years ago due to small apartment sizes where cats are generally not allowed. They are for people who love cats, but don’t or can’t have one, to interact with a roomful of cats in a comfortable, home-like setting. In the last decade, hundreds have sprouted all over the world. More than 100 are operating in the U.S. now.
What if I can't or don't want to adopt a cat?
No problem! Most visitors come to Lucky Cat Café for purr therapy by relaxing, sipping hot tea or coffee, and petting cats. There is science and research behind how purr therapy improves emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. There is nothing more pleasant than when a furry cat climbs into your lap and curls up into a ball.
Do you accept cats that need a home?
Sorry, we are not authorized or licensed to accept cats from the general public. If you are in need of places to surrender cats or kittens, please contact Shamrock Foundation at 502-585-3220 or Metro Animal Services at 502-361-1318.
Do you accept donations?
Yes! As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, we depend on large and small donations to help make ends meet. Gift cards and cash donations are used to pay expenses for the cats, plus operating expenses of running an organization like this (rent, insurance, utilities, pet supplies, etc).
What kinds of donations do you accept?
You can make a monetary donation here or we will also happily accept items from our wishlist! We can supply a tax receipt upon request.
Top 5 Most Needed Items:
-Gift cards to Amazon, Kroger, Feeders Supply and Lowes
-Sentry Calming Room Diffusers
-Canned food such as Little Friskies or Nine Lives
-Paper towels and Simple Green cleaner
-Clumping clay cat litter, any brand
Our favorite Wish List item is donations of new cat-theme items that we can sell. For example, homemade cat beds or sleeping pads from someone who likes to sew. And most of all, we enjoy receiving donations of Lucky Cat figurines and statues!
